Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32
12:00 pm
Aengus Ó Snodaigh (Dublin South Central, Sinn Fein)
I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise the following urgent matter: the shocking indictment of the Government's failed prison policy contained in the report of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture, which concluded that Irish prisons are unsafe for prisoners and prison staff, and the need for the Government immediately to drop its plan to build a superprison at Thornton Hall on the grounds that by virtue of their scale, superprisons are even more difficult to manage and hence will become more unsafe and more entrenched in gang culture, thereby mitigating against successful rehabilitation and, in turn, leading to increased crime through re-offending.
