Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31
11:00 am
Aengus Ó Snodaigh (Dublin South Central, Sinn Fein)
I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the failure of the Government to guarantee the fundamental rights of children in the State, including the constitutional rights of Irish-born children as evidenced by yesterday's High Court ruling which found the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to be in violation of those rights; the failure to guarantee the rights of all children enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child as evidenced by discriminatory Government policies such as direct provision, placing unaccompanied children in private hostels and restricting access to child benefit; and the onus on the Minister to accept yesterday's ruling and to refrain from wasting public money appealing it.
