I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss a matter of national importance and concern, namely, the urgent need to assist 440,000 people, or 11% of the State's population, over 65 years of age particularly in terms of the huge increases in gas and electricity prices; the need for the Government to implement the policy document and budget submission of the Irish Senior Citizens Parliament, Making Life Better for Older People; and to put in place adequate resources and comprehensive infrastructure for the care of our elderly and to make this a priority issue in the budget.
