Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31

5:00 pm

Jerry Cowley (Mayo, Independent)

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the reason that on World Mental Health Day there is only one consultant child psychiatrist covering the entire county of Mayo — the third largest county in the country — with children being obliged to wait for more than two years for an appointment, although immediate treatment is best for a successful outcome and the terrible tragedy of child suicide could be averted by early psychiatric intervention of lesser psychiatric problems; and with the appointment of at least another child psychiatrist requiring immediate attention in County Mayo.
