Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

10:30 am

Paudge Connolly (Cavan-Monaghan, Independent)

I propose the adjournment of Dáil Éireann under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of urgent public and national concern, namely, given the threat to inland coarse fishery resources in lakes and watercourses from illegal fishing activity and stock depletion and the urgent necessity to ensure the future sustainability of quality coarse fish stocks for domestic and tourist anglers, to call for the enactment of a national by-law prohibiting the killing of coarse fish, including pike, the revision of the relevant Fisheries Acts and statutory instruments to provide additional deterrents and adequate means of prosecution, and the adoption of a national policy geared towards education, increased awareness and partnership-based fisheries enforcement.
