Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

4:00 pm

Paudge Connolly (Cavan-Monaghan, Independent)

I wish to seek the adjournment of Dáil Éireann under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of urgent public and national concern, namely, the report of the State inquiry, under chairwoman Judge Maureen Harding Clarke, into the actions of obstetrician Dr. Michael Neary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where patients wombs were removed, over a period of 25 years, at a rate of 20 times the national average; the removal of 44 patients' files from the hospital; the tampering with the theatre register to erase names and conceal evidence; the urgent need for the introduction of stringent controls to protect patients from the actions of rogue doctors; and to call on the Government to establish a redress board for the victims, many of whom are prevented from seeking compensation due to the theft of their files.
