Three hours or a maximum of six hours, for example, but not 12 or 24 hours. An authorised officer is defined in the current legislation as an officer of an grade determined by the HSE. The proposal under the forthcoming amended legislation is that the Mental Health Commission would set a code of practice regarding authorised officers and would deem who would be appropriate.
