194. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if his attention has been drawn to complaints that the list of documentation required for a citizenship by naturalisation application on the immigration website and portal is not comprehensive and has resulted in applications being refused for the lack of said documentation; and if he will ensure that a complete list of all documentation accepted and required for a citizenship application is made easily and publicly available. All applications for a certificate of naturalisation are assessed individually based on the provisions of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1956, as amended.
My Department has produced a comprehensive guidance document for all potential applicants which outlines all the documents required for an application. This document is published on my Department's Immigration website and is available here: www.irishimmigration.ie/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Citizenship-Guidance-Document-April-2024.pdf.
In cases where incomplete applications are received, the applicant is notified, and the application is returned with a request to provide the missing documentation within 28 days. A reminder notification is issued after 18 days if the required documentation has still not been provided. If the requested documents are not supplied within the timeframe provided, the application will be deemed ineligible and closed.
Citizenship Division are aware that in some instances, applicants are uploading the documentation but failing to resubmit the application. It is essential that applicants complete the process to resubmit their application. The onus is on applicants to ensure that they provide all of the documents required.
Detailed information on how to apply for naturalisation and other resources is available here: www.irishimmigration.ie/how-to-become-a-citizen/.
If an applicant has any queries relating to their application, they can contact Citizenship division using my Departments Customer Service Portal. This can be accessed at the following link: portal.irishimmigration.ie/en/.
