The Department of Foreign Affairs has a long and proud track record of providing high quality consular services to Irish citizens abroad. This is a vital public service and a key priority of my Department.
Consular assistance was provided in 543 cases by the Irish Embassy in London and the Irish Consulate in Edinburgh since 1 January 2023. Our Embassy in London and Consulate General in Edinburgh work closely with a number of partner organisations in the Britain to provide consular assistance.
The numbers of cases recorded, disagreggated by year and the Embassy or Consulate which provided the assistance, is outlined below. To note, Embassy London carries consular responsibility for all of England and Wales. 68% of all cases recorded since 2023 are related to the death of Irish citizens.
