I propose to take Questions Nos. 38, 39 and 40 together.
I actively encourage communities to engage in beach cleaning and coastal protection measures. My Department funds the Clean Coasts programme operated by An Taisce which has received support for a number of years.
The Clean Coasts programme includes over 2,500 groups drawn from communities, businesses, sporting groups and educational bodies with over 45,000 volunteers involved around the country. I encourage individuals and groups to engage with Clean Coasts, who can support them with training and equipment and connect them with their local authority to manage the waste gathered.
Clean Coasts volunteer groups can also engage with other coastal protection voluntary actions such as protection of dues thorough marram grass planting, and An Taisce provide a wide range of awareness raising activities for communities in relation to our marine and coastal environment.
