231. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the procedures in place to verify the authenticity of foreign driving licences and letters of entitlement presented for exchange in Ireland; the checks carried out with issuing authorities; the number of attempted exchanges rejected due to invalid or unverifiable documentation in each of the past three years; the safeguards in place to ensure that drivers accessing the reduced EDT programme have genuine prior driving experience; and the measures planned to address language-barrier safety risks reported by approved driving instructors during EDT lessons. As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports, I wish to advise that the Road Safety Authority, which has statutory responsibility for the National Driver Licence Service, holds the information requested. Accordingly, I have referred this matter to the Authority for direct reply.

I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.
