As Minister of State at the Department of Transport with special responsibility for Rural Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to rural public transport service provision; however, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for securing the provision of public passenger transport services nationally. In light of the NTA responsibilities I have referred your question to the NTA for direct reply to you. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.

166. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the reason for such a disparity in pricing between online ticket reservations with Irish Rail and purchasing a ticket at the station; the reason those who are forced to purchase a ticket offline, after the window for online reservations has closed, are penalised with higher ticket prices; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The queries raised by the Deputy are operational matters for Irish Rail, in conjunction with the NTA. I have, therefore, referred the Deputy's question to both for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.
