Any death of a resident in IPAS accommodation is a tragic event for their family, friends and neighbours, and also for the accommodation centre staff who know them.
While the Department has not commissioned specific research as outlined in the question, we do publish information on deaths of people resident in International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) centres on a biannual basis.
The most recent publication was in February 2025, reporting on the period to end December 2024. Information is provided, where available, by gender, age-range, nationality and cause of death.
This information is available on the gov.ie website at the following link:

The regular publication of data is part of the IPAS policy on the recording and reporting of deaths of residents in accommodation centres.
This policy is intended to balance the need for openness and transparency in all State organisations in the provision of information to the public, with the expectation of privacy and consideration of the sensitive nature surrounding the death of any individual for their family and friends.
