Estimates for the number of persons unemployed are published monthly by the CSO in the Monthly Unemployment Estimates, and official employment and unemployment numbers are published quarterly in the Labour Force Survey. The CSO will publish official unemployment numbers in respect of Q3 2025 on Thursday 20th November. The long-term unemployment rate (those unemployed for a year or more) in Q2 2025 stood at 1.1%.

The table below summarises the number of individuals in continuous receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance (JA) for durations 0-12, 13-24, 25-36 or 37+ months. Please note that casual workers are not included in these figures.

There were 172,106 recipients of Disability Allowance in October 2025. The represents 3.2% of the total population, based an estimated 5,458,000 people from CSO's Population and Migration estimates. 4,073,700 people are estimated to be aged between 15 and 74 years old; Disability Allowance represents 4.2% of this target population.
