The Rent Supplement (RS) scheme provides short-term income support to eligible people living in private rented accommodation whose means are insufficient to meet their accommodation costs and who do not have accommodation available to them from any other source. The scheme ensures that for those who were renting, but whose circumstances have changed due to temporary loss of employment, can continue to meet their rental commitments.
According to Departmental records, the person concerned applied for RS on 25/08/2025. This claim was disallowed on the basis that the person concerned was in fulltime employment and did not meet the qualifying criteria for RS. A letter advising them of this outcome issued to them on 10/09/2025.
The Department has since been contacted by the person concerned who advised that they now have a change in her circumstances and that they are no longer employed and are now in receipt if Illness Benefit. The application for the person concerned is now being reconsidered based on the new information provided. The CWO will contact the person concerned should any further information be required on review of their application, alternatively, the CWO will advise the person concerned with the outcome of the decision directly.
I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
