Government is fully committed to working with all stakeholders to deliver social, affordable and cost rental homes at scale and to continue accelerating housing supply across all tenures. Since the beginning of 2022 my Department has supported the delivery of 35,163 new social homes across thousands of individual projects funded through build, acquisition and leasing programmes as well as 16,809 new affordable homes.

My Department continually engages with local authorities and Approved Housing Bodies (AHB) while assessing applications for suitability, value for money and compliance with the various requirements of the applicable funding scheme. The decision to not proceed with a project which has previously been approved is not the norm, however the information sought is not readily available as the systems used to track projects though the various lifecycle stages do not record the information requested. The compilation of the data requested would involve delivery teams reviewing individual projects on a manual basis.

Local authorities are entirely independent corporate entities having full responsibility under law for the performance of their functions and the discharge of their governance and other responsibilities including the delivery of approved social and affordable housing schemes in line with funding conditions.

My Department continues to receive and assess applications for suitability, value for money and compliance with the various requirements of the applicable funding scheme and the Department is committed to the provision of funding to local authorities and AHBs for the delivery of Social and Affordable housing projects.
