The Government is firmly committed to unlocking the vast economic opportunities that Artificial Intelligence presents for our businesses, including SMEs.
We have delivered a wide range of enterprise supports, particularly for SMEs:
- The Grow Digital Voucher offers up to €5,000 to small businesses (under 50 employees) to adopt digital tools such as AI, e-commerce, cybersecurity and website development.
- The Digital for Business consultancy scheme is a free service which connects businesses with expert digital advisors to assess their needs and develop tailored plans.
- The Grow Digital Portal showcases success stories from non-tech businesses embracing digital and AI transformation to demonstrate the benefits of AI for various sectors and types of business.
- Ireland's four European Digital Innovation Hubs (Dublin, Cork, Mullingar and Sligo) help SMEs and public bodies adopt key technologies: AI, cybersecurity and high-performance computing.
This year I launched the Charter for Digital Inclusion, a set of commitments to which business and other organisations can sign up, to contribute to bridging the digital gap by promoting basic digital skills, building awareness and helping people and businesses get online and to adopt digital and AI technology. An important focus of the Charter is a call to action for larger businesses to support SMEs in adopting digital technologies—and just as importantly, to work with communities and citizens to improve access to technologies and digital skills.
In addition, the recently published Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity includes eight measures specifically related to AI and digital adoption. These strategic actions will ensure Irish enterprises can adapt, thrive and lead in the digital age.
