The recently concluded review of the National Development Plan has confirmed the Department of Transport’s annual capital allocations from 2026 to 2030. The Department is in the process of reviewing key programmes and projects in the transport sector in the context of that newly confirmed capital funding envelope, including plans for investment in public transport projects, and a decision on a programme of delivery within the available funding will be made in the coming months. My Department will now progress the sectoral plan for the 2026 to 2030 period, which will be published later this year and which will inform transport priorities in the coming years.

I can at this time confirm that the overall funding for the Active Travel and Greenways Programme will be €360 million for next year, supporting the delivery of high-quality walking and cycling infrastructure across the country. As part of the local authority allocation’s determination process, both the NTA and TII will liaise with local authorities to fully understand their Active Travel and Greenways project proposals and priorities. Allocations for 2026, including those for Wicklow County Council, are expected to be announced in early 2026 at which point a list of supported projects will also be available.
