364. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if his attention has been drawn to the fact that persons who wish to travel from Dublin to Trim in County Meath via rail from Connolly to the M3 Parkway stop, and use the bus for the remainder of the journey must walk 2km on a stretch of road which does not have a footpath between the M3 Parkway train stop and the 111 bus stop (Athboy Route) at a location (details supplied); if he will consider the potential for having a bus stop on that route at the train stop to ensure safety for commuters and to encourage more use of the rail system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has responsibility for the planning and development of public transport infrastructure, including the provision of bus stops/shelters.
There is a commitment under the Programme for Government to ensure that public transport operators provide safe and accessible access for all passengers and a commitment to work with local authorities and national bodies to improve public transport options and infrastructure.
Noting the NTA's responsibility in the matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to the NTA for a direct reply. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 days.
