Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection hold temporary permission to remain in Ireland, and this permission is renewable on an annual basis as long as the Temporary Protection Directive remains in force.
I can advise the Deputy that on 15 July 2025, the Justice and Home Affairs Council unanimously agreed to extend Temporary Protection by a year until March 2027.
The table below shows the number of people who were granted Temporary Protection by my Department for each of the years 2022, 2023, 2024 and up to 31 October 2025 and by month.
| Month | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | - | 2,654 | 1,444 | 708 |
| February | - | 3,086 | 732 | 770 |
| March | 13,106 | 3,195 | 949 | 578 |
| April | 12,135 | 1,889 | 652 | 496 |
| May | 7,986 | 2,720 | 813 | 583 |
| June | 6,928 | 3,091 | 847 | 761 |
| July | 5,727 | 3,391 | 972 | 1,213 |
| August | 3,985 | 2,228 | 678 | 766 |
| September | 4,838 | 2,947 | 794 | 1,828 |
| October | 6,053 | 3,326 | 916 | 1,618 |
| November | 4,132 | 2,217 | 757 | - |
| December | 4,577 | 2,193 | 894 | - |
| Total | 69, 467 | 32,937 | 10,448 | 9,321* |
The table above does not show the number of beneficiaries who have voluntarily withdrawn their Temporary Protection status or the number of people that have left the state.
I can advise the Deputy that the Central Statistics Office regularly release publications concerning arrivals from Ukraine in Ireland which estimates the number still present in the State. The latest release can be found here:
