The structure in question, which is known by the three names referenced here, has received funding from my Department through the National Built Heritage Service (NBHS).

The NBHS provides two main grant schemes to support for the protection of eligible heritage buildings and historic structures. The Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) and the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) are, in the main, administered by the local authorities. The HSF offers grants of between €50,000 and €200,000. Its primary focus is to assist the conservation and enhancement of historic structures and buildings for the broader benefit of communities and the public. The application window for HSF projects for 2026 is currently open.

Fingal County Council was awarded funding for works to this bridge under the HSF in 2021. This funding was to provide essential conservation and repair works to the disused riveted wrought iron girder bridge structure over the River Liffey, and essential conservation and repair works to the stone abutments on both sides of the bridge structure. The total funding awarded to Fingal County Council under HSF for this structure came to €183,000 between 2021 and 2023.
