In accordance with the provisions of Section 112 of the Broadcasting Act 2009, as amended, TG4 have a Code of Fair Trading Practices in place, which came into effect from March 2021, and which they continue to operate to.

The Act requires that such a code is updated every 4 years, having regard to guidance from Coimisiún na Meán, as the independent media regulator. I understand that An Coimisiún is undertaking stakeholder engagement and consultation prior to the issuing of updated guidance, which they intend to publish in Quarter 1 of 2026. It will then be a matter for TG4 to update their Code of Fair Trading Practices based on the updated guidance.

In relation to any concerns which independent producers may have, the Broadcasting Act requires any Code prepared by a broadcaster must include provision for dispute resolution. In addition, the consultation process which is being undertaken by An Coimisiún provides an opportunity for any such concerns to be raised.
