The Town and Village Renewal Scheme (TVRS) was launched in 2016 and is one of a number of measures designated to rejuvenate rural towns and villages throughout Ireland. Since its launch, almost €184 million has been allocated to over 1,800 projects nationally.

The Scheme, which sees local authorities work with communities throughout the country, primarily targets funding at rural towns and villages with populations of less than 10,000. Applications for towns with populations of up to 15,000 people are also accepted where the project is of a high quality, displays good value for money and has the potential to significantly benefit the town or village.

The 2025 Scheme was launched in March 2025 and places particular emphasis on projects that have a renewed focus on town centre economic and social recovery and regeneration. This will be achieved through projects which support sustainable employment creation, town centre resilience and regeneration, enhancing our streetscapes, and bringing vacant and derelict buildings and lands back into use as community multi-purpose spaces through refurbishment and renovation.

The Scheme is heavily subscribed, and all applications received under the scheme will be assessed for suitability against scheme criteria and objectives. Other factors such as the geographical spread of projects, the quality of the proposed projects, and the available budget will also be considered as part of the assessment process to maximise the impact of this funding.

The closing date for receipt of applications for the 2025 TVRS was 25 July 2025. The assessment process is currently in progress and I expect to announce the successful projects by the end of this year.
