As part of the Senior Cycle Redevelopment (SCR) support measures, the Department has committed to establishing a task force to consider the appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching, learning and assessment.
The Department is currently finalising how best to give effect to this commitment and to determine the most appropriate mechanism. This includes consideration of how such a task force could support focused discussion and provide advice on the potential use of AI in schools, while ensuring alignment with broader education policy and governance structures.
The Department recently published guidance for schools on the use of Artificial Intelligence on 21st October 2025. This guidance provides initial advice on the opportunities and challenges presented by AI and outlines appropriate approaches for potential safe, responsible and ethical use of AI in teaching and learning. The guidance will be regularly reviewed and updated to reflect emerging practices, new research and feedback from the school system.
