As previously noted, Bus Éireann is responsible for the planning and timetabling of school transport routes on behalf of the Department.
Routes are planned so that, as far as possible, no eligible child will have more than 3.2 kilometres to travel to a pick-up point. As the pupil referred to by the Deputy is not eligible for transport, the distance to the pick up point is within the guidelines of the scheme.
Bus Éireann advise that they are following up with local office staff regarding the safety assessment. The School Transport Section of my Department will furnish this information directly to the Deputy as soon as it is available.
