The Aquatic House Complex was closed to the public due to its poor structural condition which gave rise to health and safety concerns relating to both public and staff using the building.

The Complex is made up of three distinct houses; the Succulent House, the Waterlily House and the proposed new Epiphyte House. The OPW undertook stabilisation works to ensure the structural stability and preservation of historic fabric. These works will act as enabling works to the future restoration of the glasshouses.

Planning permission has been granted for the required works and the project is now in the detailed design phase. Subject to the relevant approvals required under the Infrastructure Guidelines and Public Spending code, the project is due to advance through tendering and construction in the coming years. It is not possible to give an exact date for when the works will be completed at this stage in the process.
