GPs are self-employed practitioners, most of whom hold a contract(s) with the HSE for the provision of health services on its behalf. Currently there are 2,576 GPs contracted to provide services under the GMS Scheme, and there are a further 634 GPs that do not hold a GMS contract but hold at least one other contract with the HSE for the provision of health services.

As the question relates to service matter, I have asked the HSE to respond to the Deputy directly in regard to HSE contracted GPs, as soon as possible.
