European Commission Experts Groups’ members are usually selected through public calls for applications. The only exceptions are public authorities (Type D and E members).
- Type D - Member States’ authorities - national, regional or local.
- Type E – other public entities , such as authorities from non-EU countries (including candidate countries), EU bodies, offices or agencies, and international organisations.
- European Commission expert group on public health (PHEG) and its subgroups on mental health, vaccination, cancer and NCDs; and network of expertise on long COVID,
- Biotechnologies Experts Group,
- Critical Medicines Alliance,
- Expert Group on Medical Devices,
- Expert Group on Global Health in Development Cooperation,
Experts Groups play a critical role in shaping EU policy, especially in complex and technical areas like healthcare:
- They provide specialist, science-based advice that helps the Commission to deliver evidence-based policy making,
- bring in external, up-to-date knowledge and help interpret emerging trends,
- ensure that diverse perspectives are considered.
