170. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will engage with Bus Éireann to address the limited public transport provision serving Cloyne, County Cork; if consideration will be given to extending the Ballinacurra service to loop through Cloyne, particularly given the town’s growing population and new housing developments; if he will further examine how enhanced bus links to Cloyne could facilitate greater use of the expanded Midleton–Cork train services, thereby improving connectivity across east Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter. 171. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will engage with Bus Éireann and the National Transport Authority to address the limited public transport provision serving towns and rural areas in east Cork, including Cloyne, Ballycotton, Ladysbridge, Garryvoe, Shanagarry and their surrounding hinterlands; if consideration will be given to extending existing services, such as those from Ballinacurra, to loop through these communities; if he will further examine how enhanced bus links across east Cork could integrate with the increased Midleton–Cork train services, thereby providing sustainable transport connections for the growing populations in these towns and rural areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 170 and 171 together.
As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport; however, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for securing the provision of public passenger transport services nationally and for the scheduling and timetabling of these services in conjunction with the relevant transport operators.
In light of the NTA's responsibility in this area, I have forwarded the Deputy's query to the NTA for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within ten working days.
