The Greater Dublin Drainage (GDD) is an essential national infrastructure project to develop a new regional wastewater treatment facility and associated infrastructure at Clonshaugh, Co Dublin to provide for growth in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA) and parts of counties Kildare and Meath.

The GDD received planning permission from An Coimisiún Pleanála in July 2025, however, a Judicial Review was subsequently lodged to challenge this decision.

To bring the project through the planning permission process including detailed design options and appraisals, public consultation and other assessments, I and my colleague the Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, as required under the Water Services Act 2013, have given consent for Uisce Éireann to enter into capital commitments of up to €86.3m on the GDD project.
