I propose to take Questions Nos. 212 and 213 together.
I would like to extend my sincere sympathies to the family for the death of this young person and for the trauma caused by this appalling incident.
The events leading to this tragedy have previously been the subject of court proceedings, leading to a settlement by the youth organisation in question, which is an independent organisation governed by an independent Board of Directors.
Department of Education and Youth officials engage regularly with the youth organisation in question to ensure proper governance in relation to Department funding and to ensure that the youth organisation has adequate child safeguarding structures in place. Department officials are satisfied that safeguarding is a priority for the youth organisation and that it has appropriate safeguarding structures.
