68. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if his Department has, in collaboration with other stakeholders including the Department of Health, carried out analyses of the capacity of public transport connections to Beaumont hospital; the other work, if any, his Department has carried out to explore the way in which demand for parking and private car access to the hospital may be reduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport; however, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations of public transport. The National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for securing the provision of public passenger transport services nationally and for the scheduling and timetabling of these services in conjunction with the relevant transport operators.
In light of the NTA’s responsibility in this area, I have forwarded the Deputy's question to the NTA for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a response within ten working days.

As Minister of State at the Department of Transport with special responsibility for Rural Transport I recognise the importance of boosting connectivity in Counties Kerry and Cork. In the new Programme for Government, Securing Ireland's Future, this Government has committed to continue the roll-out of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan. As with all plans, any additional funding for rural public transport services would be subject to the annual Budgetary and Estimates process.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for securing the provision of public passenger transport services nationally. The NTA also has national responsibility for integrated local and rural transport, including delivering the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan. Specific rail works and progress are a matter for Irish Rail, in conjunction with the NTA.
In light of the NTA and Irish Rail's responsibilities I have referred your question to the NTA and Irish Rail for direct reply to you. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.
