The Air Corps operates the Emergency Aeromedical Support (EAS) service based on the 2015 Government Decision. The Government Decision established the EAS service on a permanent basis and provided that it would operate as a daily, daytime only service based out of Custume Barracks, Athlone. Since the commencement of this service in June 2012, the Air Corps has completed over 4554 missions with 317 missions completed during 2024.

This service provides rapid patient transport to an appropriate facility where the land transit time, given the patient’s condition and its severity, would not be clinically acceptable. A decision to deploy the EAS service is guided by EAS clinical tasking criteria, as determined by the National Ambulance Service Medical Director.
