My Department has invested a total of €2,694,327 to date in the delivery of the national Government digital wallet initiative, with projected expenditure rising to €3,099,082 by the end of 2025.
This initiative is being implemented through a phased approach, with funding allocated across multiple years to support the design, ongoing development, testing, and rollout of the digital wallet.
The implementation leverages a suite of technical building blocks to ensure the most efficient and effective use of public digital infrastructure, aligning with the EU’s ambition under the European Digital Identity Framework Regulation (eIDAS 2.0) to provide all citizens and residents with a secure digital identity by 2026.
