Menopause is the permanent cessation of menstruation. Menopause occurs with the final menstrual period and thus is known with certainty only in retrospect, one year after the event.
Menopause can be natural or induced – induced menopause may be due to surgical removal of the ovaries, or may be due to medication, chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
