The Public Consultation in question was carried out to inform a comprehensive year-long independent study which is examining the factors contributing to our plateaued recycling performance and assessing the current waste collection model and its role in supporting the delivery of national and EU circular economy and waste targets.

The consultation garnered significant engagement, delivering on the first milestone in the study. The submissions received are informing the ongoing study and will be included as an annex to the final report currently scheduled for completion in March 2026. The findings of this study will also help inform the next iteration of the Waste Action Plan for a Circular Economy.
