The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) produces guidance for consumers on a wide range of consumer matters. This guidance includes information on buying from businesses outside of the EU and buying online, including informing consumers how to check where a business is based, and advising consumers to check the policies of businesses outside of the EU. The information is available at www.ccpc.ie.

My Department does not compile statistics on consumer spending on e-commerce in the State or purchases from companies located outside the State. For completeness, my officials reached out to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

Whilst it does not publish figures in the exact way the Deputy has phrased her question, the CSO does publish information on Household Digital Consumer Behaviour, which can be found XXX. E.G. in 2024 clothes, shoes, or accessories, including bags, jewelry, etc. continued to be the most common purchase online according to 77% of internet users.
