362. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if the OPW minor flood mitigation works and coastal protection scheme is permitted to be availed of for the repair a road that leads to a public amenity, such as a popular beach; if not, the reason; whether there is other funding available for such works through the OPW; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Localised flooding issues are a matter, in the first instance, for each local authority to investigate and address, and local authorities may carry out flood mitigation works using its own resources. The OPW Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme was introduced by the OPW on an administrative, non-statutory basis in 2009. The purpose of the scheme is to provide funding to local authorities to undertake minor flood mitigation works, or studies to address localised flooding and coastal protection problems within their administrative areas. As such, the repair of a road that leads to a public amenity is outside of the scope of this flood mitigation ad coastal protection scheme.
There are not any other funding sources available through the OPW for such works.
