Under the Road Safety Authority Act 2006, the Road Safety Authority (RSA) has statutory responsibility for the National Driver Testing Service, including testing and scheduling matters. Accordingly, the information requested is held by the RSA. Given the RSA's responsibility in this matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to the RSA for direct, detailed response. Please contact my office if a reply is not received within ten days.

Pending the response, I understand that, currently, emergency driving test appointments can only be offered to critical frontline workers. If they are employed by the HSE, a private hospital or the emergency services and they need to drive as part of their job (not including commuting to their place of work) they can submit their application for review. All customers must meet the required criteria in order to be eligible for an emergency driving test appointment.
