Under the Protection of Employment Act 1977, as amended, employers must comply with a number of legal obligations when proposing collective redundancies. This includes undertaking a 30-day information and consultation process with employees’ representatives and notifying the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment at least 30 days before the first redundancy takes effect.
The information that must be provided to the Minister in a collective redundancy notification is set out in S.I. 324/2024. This includes the employer’s name and company registration number (if applicable).
S.I. 324/2024 does not require an employer to provide details of its country of origin or whether it is a subsidiary company. As such, I am unable to provide the information sought by the Deputy.
I can advise on the total number of collective redundancy notifications received during this period. In 2024, my Department received 166 collective redundancy notifications. To end-August in 2025, my Department received 152 collective redundancy notifications.
