259. To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment whether a third level student who is resident in Ireland on a stamp 3, and is required to do work placement to complete their college course, must have the right to work in Ireland generally; how they go about getting this; if he will advise on an individual case (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. Ireland operates a managed employment permits system, designed to maximise the benefits of economic migration while minimising disruption to Ireland’s labour market. The system is governed by the Employment Permits Act 2024, which provides the legislative framework for granting employment permits to non-EEA nationals seeking to work in Ireland.

The case referred to in the details concerned appears to be within the remit of the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration. The individual concerned should contact the Department of Justice to discuss options for changing their immigration status to facilitate their work placement.
