I propose to take Questions Nos. 109 and 110 together.

Ireland voted in favour of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 of 1971.

Along with our EU partners, Ireland, along with our EU partners, adheres to the EU’s One China Policy. This means that we recognise the People's Republic of China as the legal representative of China, and that we do not have diplomatic relations with Taiwan. However, the absence of diplomatic of relations does not preclude the development of economic, cultural and people-to-people connections. Nor does it preclude the meaningful participation of Taiwan in relevant multilateral fora, as appropriate.

Along with our EU partners, Ireland has supported Taiwan’s meaningful participation in a number of multilateral fora dealing with issues where Taiwan’s participation is important to the EU and global interests. It is an important factor that participation in such fora does not imply statehood, and that Taiwan can bring significant added value to global discussions in these areas, given its advanced economy and technical expertise.
