705. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the progress that has been made on the issue of pension provision for research staff grades who do not have access to public service pensions in higher education institutions, particularly in relation to the technological university sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. DFHERIS is strongly of the view that research staff in all higher education institutions across the sector should be able to access a public service pension scheme.

Officials from my Department have submitted a business case to the Department of Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform to support access to the single public service pension scheme for those researchers who are not currently able to join the scheme. Officials from both Departments are continuing to work on bringing this matter to a resolution as soon as possible.
