I met with the new Garda Commissioner on 1 September 2025, his first day in office. The Secretary General and Deputy Secretary General (Criminal Justice) from my Department were also in attendance at this meeting.

Formal meetings between myself and the Commissioner and his team are held on a quarterly basis, supplemented by additional meetings as the need arises or on specific issues.

Given the nature of our respective roles, I have also informally met the Commissioner at events such as the National Ploughing Championships and the Annual Conference of the Association of Chief Superintendents.

I am informed that an official from my Department attended a meeting with the Commissioner and the Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Séan Canney TD on 10 September. Senior officials from my Department also met with the Commissioner on 11 September at a meeting of the Criminal Justice Strategic Committee.
