I propose to take Questions Nos. 436 and 437 together.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that, as of 31 July 2025, there were 3,683 vehicles attached to the Garda fleet, the highest total of vehicles ever in use by An Garda Síochána. This represents an increase of over 18% since the end of December 2020.
An Garda Síochána publishes detailed information on the Garda fleet from 2008 to date. Information in relation to the number of Garda vans and cars is publicly available and can be found at the following link: www.garda.ie/en/about-us/our-departments/finance-services/finance-fleet-management.html
The Deputy should select Finance Fleet Management and access the file titled “Fleet Management Report July 2025” for a breakdown of Garda vehicles as at 31 July 2025.
The Garda Commissioner is responsible under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024 for the distribution and deployment of the Garda fleet across the State. As Minister, I have no role in these independent functions.

I have requested the information sought by the Deputy from the Garda authorities. Regrettably, it has not been possible to compile the information in time and I will write to the Deputy once the information is available.

In the interest of transparency, information in relation to the personnel strength in An Garda Síochána, by rank and by Garda region, is publicly available and can be found at the following link:
www.garda.ie/garda/en/about-us/our-departments/human-resources-and-people-development/garda-hr-directorate/garda-strength-breakdown-2025/garda-strength-breakdown-2025.html
The Deputy should select the current month and access the file titled “Garda Workforce Strength 2006 to 31 July 2025” for a breakdown of the Strength of Garda by rank going back to 2006.
To find a breakdown of total Gardaí numbers by Garda Division going back to 2006 the Deputy should access the file titled “Garda Members by Division 2006 to 31 July 2025”.
The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the distribution and stationing of Garda personnel throughout the State under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024. As Minister, I have no role in these independent functions.

I am committed to ensuring that An Garda Síochána has the resources it needs to fight crime and a strengthened, well-resourced Garda organisation is central to this policy.
The Garda Vote in Budget 2025 saw unprecedented funding of over €2.48 billion for this year, a 27% increase since 2020 which is supporting the continued recruitment of Garda members and staff.
In the interest of transparency, An Garda Síochána publishes data on the allocation of Gardaí by Division, Station and rank. This can be found at the following link:
www.garda.ie/en/about-us/our-departments/human-resources-and-people-development/garda-hr-directorate/garda-strength-breakdown-2025/.
The Deputy should select the Garda Workforce figures for July and access the file titled “Garda members by Division District Station 2009 to 31 July 2025” for a breakdown of Gardaí by Garda station going back to 2009.
It should be noted that, with the completion of the rollout of the Garda Operating Model to all Garda Divisions, stations are now aligned to Community Engagement Functional Areas. The term 'district' is no longer in operational use.
