The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) is the central competent authority for the enforcement of food safety legislation in Ireland. This includes the Regulations on allergen information for non-prepacked foods. The HSE National Environmental Health Service carry out inspections of food businesses to verify compliance with food legislation under service contract with the FSAI.

As information regarding inspections to verify compliance with food legislation is an operational matter, I have asked the HSE to reply to the Deputy on the parts of the question relevant to the HSE.

The FSAI has also advised that Guidance Note No. 28, “Food Allergen Information for Non-Prepacked Foods in Ireland (Revision 2)” was published on 25 June 2025 and is available for download on the FSAI website: www.fsai.ie/publications/guidance-note-28-food-allergen-information-for-non.

As this is a service matter, I have asked the Health Service Executive to respond to the deputy directly, as soon as possible.
