309. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the actions he intends to take regarding the revelation that files and evidence in relation to the 1987 murder of a person (details supplied) have gone missing and the concerns that the investigation into the case has been substandard and inadequate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the specific matter to which the Deputy refers is currently before the High Court, it is not possible for me to comment in detail at this time.

If a person is not satisfied with the manner in which an investigation affecting them has been handled by An Garda Síochána, then it is open to them to contact Fiosrú, the Police Ombudsman. Fiosrú, as the Deputy will be aware, is the independent body charged with receiving and investigating complaints from the public concerning members of An Garda Síochána.
