While my Department is not aware of any publicly available statistics or estimates on employment in the Irish Fashion industry, the following information may be helpful to the Deputy.

My Department collects data annually on full time and part time employment in the client companies of the enterprise development agencies (Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland and Údarás na Gaeltachta). The survey covers companies active in manufacturing and internationally traded services. It does not include retail and distribution sales.

Companies active in Textiles, Clothing, Footwear and Leather (Nace sectors 1300-1599) are presented in this Annual Employment Survey as one sector. This sector had a total direct employment of 2,689 in 2024. This is made up of full time employment of 2,193 and part time employment of 496.

Previous work commissioned by my Department on employment multiplier impacts from enterprise agency client companies provided an estimate of an employment multiplier for the Textiles, Clothing, Footwear and Leather of 1.6. That is, for every person directly employed in this sector another 0.6 people are employed in the wider economy through indirect and induced impacts.

Therefore, as the Textiles, Clothing, Footwear and Leather sector supports 2,869 total direct jobs in enterprise agency firms, an estimated further 1,721 jobs are supported in the wider economy, giving an estimate of total employment impact for this sector of 4,590 jobs.

More information on the Annual Employment Survey is available on my Department's website:
