As Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports, I wish to inform the Deputy that my Department is currently developing a new Vehicle Adaptation Scheme (VAS) to support disabled drivers and passengers.
The purpose of the new scheme is to improve functional mobility through necessary vehicle adaptations, as a specific personal transport support.
In consultation with key stakeholders, the principles and parameters of the new Scheme will be developed over the coming months. As primary legislation will be required to underpin the scheme, it is not possible to provide a definitive timeline for its introduction.
The Deputy may wish to note that support for the capital cost of vehicles, including tax concessions, remains a matter for my colleague, the Minister for Finance.
