While the Department of Transport has overall responsibility for transport policy, including aviation, it is not within my remit to intervene in the operational matters of private commercial airlines or indeed in intervening in individual cases between passenger and airlines.

I understand that the issue the Deputy wishes to raise on behalf of her constituent concerns a complaint under Regulation EU/261 of 2004, which concerns air passengers' rights when their flight is delayed or cancelled or passengers are denied boarding. The Deputy may wish to note that, while such complaints should be made to air carrier in the first instance, the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) is the designated national enforcement body for this regulation in Ireland. The Deputy’s constituent may wish to raise a complaint with the IAA if they are unable to obtain satisfaction from their air carrier. Additionally, as the matter may be of a general consumer affairs nature, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission at www.ccpc.ie may be in a position to offer the Deputy's constituent further advice.
